Divine Discipline

For the Lord corrects and disciplines everyone whom He loves, and He punishes, even scourges, every son whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes.

Read Hebrews 12:6, Amplified Bible

This scripture has been used to give God such a bad reputation! Every bad thing a believer experiences gets attributed to God as His punishment for some sinful mistake we’ve made. We’re told that God is correcting us when we don’t even know what we did wrong. That’s not God’s way of doing things. We are “sons whom He accepts and welcomes to His heart and cherishes”. Does that sound like a father who would blindside us with a crisis to “correct and discipline us”? No question, God desires to remove sinful behaviors in our lives and will convict us of sin. We should be grateful that He does because it serves to save us from great harm and destruction if we’ll repent and come into obedience. God’s punishing and scourging is appropriate for willful disobedience. Judge yourself and your workplace behavior— if your current situation was not caused by conscious rebellion against God, He isn’t the author of it. If it is, repent, receive forgiveness, and let God lead you out.

I trust the Love of God. I am safe with my Father.

I welcome God’s correction and discipline for it leads me to freedom.

By faith I receive the ability to hear and to obey God’s voice.
